Lenovo Constant Connect, Thinkpad & Blackberry to go head to head with major carriers?
March 4, 2009
Lenovo have developed a new application called Constant Connect which automatically synchronizes emails between your ThinkPad and your Blackberry, even when your ThinkPad is switched off. This could turn out to be a really radical move for RIM and Lenovo.
It could put the Thinkpad and Blackberry brands head to head with the major telephony carriers and drastically hit Data Card sales.
Using the Constant Connect Card, which slots into your express card slot, you can write your emails on the plane or anywhere else for that matter, Outlook doesn’t have to be connected. Sit and merrily write all the emails you like and answer the emails you downloaded before you left home, the office, or your meeting.
Your emails will be constantly synchronsing with your Blackberry via the Constant Connect Card
Close your Thinkpad down, and as soon as your Blackberry has a Connection in the Terminal, it will send your emails, and sync any incoming emails with your Thinkpad!
In a nutshell what Constant Connect does is leverage the push-based connectivity of the BlackBerry. Lenovo Constant Connect simplifies email synchronization on the laptop and provides you with greater flexibility to manage your email on the move.
This level of integration and availability dramatically improves access to email on the Lenovo ThinkPad laptop from wherever a BlackBerry smartphone can access a connection.
In addition to greater flexibility and convenience, it can also reduce the need to use the laptop with fee based Wi-Fi networks in Airport lounges and Hotels and elsewhere when you are on the move. Lenovo Constant Connect is expected to be available from Lenovo and its business partners in the second quarter of 2009 in the U.S, and to be rolled out in markets around the world later in 2009.
The only problem is that for some reason, the Constant Connect card can only handle sychronizing of Outlook with the BlackBerry. We can’t yet get Internet Access via our Blackberry Smartphone. Once that function is made available we think you’ll see sales of the Constant Connect Card going through the roof.
That of course is providing you own a ThinkPad, because right now the system is not designed to work with other Notebooks. Just another reason to buy a ThinkPad!
We just cant see why you would want a Data card when you have your Blackberry with internet access via Lenovo Constant Connect. Will we see ThinkPad and Blackberry Bundles on the Lenovo Site? We think it’s very much a possibility
So how about it Lenovo? Do we get Internet Access via our Constant Connect Card or you scared of hacking off the major carriers? Watch this space, we will keep you informed!
