Lenovo ThinkPad W700 Video review – why and if you should buy one!

October 12, 2008

There is absolutely no doubt that the ThinkPad W700 is the master of the universe in terms of power and features.

I know we often wax lyrical about the standard of engineering that Lenovo achieves, but the W700 surpasses anything we have ever seen. We covered all the technical stuff in our recent ThinkPad W700 review, but really wanted to revisit the ThinkPad W700 again because we are still amazed by the sheer audacity Lenovo has displayed in producing such a machine.

It stretches the limits  of computing power way beyond a mere desktop replacement. All the clichés have already been worn out ,like “enough computational power to flatten a small village”, “enough Gigahertz to burn down a large forest” etc, etc. But the ThinkPad W700 goes way beyond power, it’s the elegance with which that raw power has been harnessed and combined with a stack of features and options that make the W700 the single best Laptop that money can buy.

And if you want to buy one, it’s plenty of money you’re going to need!

The real question here is, should you buy one? Do your really need all the power and features that the ThinkPad W700 has to offer? Well the answer is yes is if you are an Engineer, an Architect, a Graphic designer (Macbook eat your heart out! Sorry Steve, couldn’t resist that one!) or you work with CAD.

Any other mortal should stick with the ThinkPad W500 or even the T500 and leave yourself a few grand in the bank. Unless of course you just must have one because it way out on the bleeding edge and that’s who you are.

Where the ThinklPad W700 really stands out though is as a creative tool for the Professional Photographer and the Photographic Artist.

Take a look at this Photo Shoot at the Microsoft Pro 08 Photo Summit. Hosted by Wes Williams of Lenovo and Josh Weisberg of Microsoft, this is a real eye opener to the creative power of the ThinkPad W700.  Running the W700 through its paces were such photographic geniuses as Bambi Cantrell, Mathew Jordan Smith and Dennis Reggie. Oh and there were a couple of really gorgeous models as well!

So, should you buy a ThinkPad W700? The answer is simple, providing you have the funds and as we said above you should buy if you are an Engineer, an Architect a Graphic designer, 3D Artist, Games Developer, Mathematician or Scientist with really heavy number crunching applications . The ISV Certified W700 will eat them.

If however you are a serious, creative professional photographer who aspires to the level of  Bambi Cantrell and Mathew Jordan Smith then you need to take a serious look at the ThinkPad W700 from Lenovo. If you want the best mobile digital photo studio on planet Earth, then you need to sell your Macbook Pro, and your Granny and anything else you can lay your hands on and buy a ThinkPad W700. The great thing is that as we write this, there are some Thinkpad W700 coupon codes available and you could just save yourself a few hundred dollars.

Enjoy the video.

Thank you, Thank you! for such a terrific, well thought out product. The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 answers so many needs of today’s professional photographer, from color calibration to the built in Wacom tablet! Now instead of carrying 10 different tools into the field, I carry one! What a load off of my mind, as well as my back.

Did I mention the screaming speed?
