Lenovo Enhanced MultiTouch and Simple Tap

In a typically innovative move Lenovo gets a jump on the notebook industry today by introducing Enhanced MultiTouch panel technology to the ThinkPad X200 Tablet, and interestingly the new super desirable ThinkPad T400s.

The X200 Tablet comes with an option for the Intel Core 2 Duo SL9400 1.86GHz with 6MB L2 cache and starts at $1654. The X200 Tablet, whilst in its self, an object of desire for the techno geek in us, is still quite a narrow market.

Designed primarily for users needing fast data input such as sales professionals, health care workers and engineers, the current ThinkPad X200 tablet already supports one finger touch. The new  Enhanced MulitTouch panel can now use two-finger touch to perform a variety of gestures, including pinching, zooming, tapping and flicking through documents, web pages and photos instead of using a mouse.

The really interesting bit as far as we are concerned is the 4 finger support on the ThinkPad T400s screen which opens up a whole new world with the firth coming Windows 7 supporting MultiTouch.

To compliment the new technology Lenovo have also developed an application called SimpleTap. Two fingers tapped anywhere on the screen opens the application. You can then choose between several hardware-based functions which include turning on or off the wireless, controlling the ThinkLight and microphone, previewing the camera, enabling mute, or even adjusting the volume or screen brightness. You can also  lock the screen or put your ThinkPad into hibernate.

You can create your own tiles to enhance your own workday and integrate with your specialized applications. For example if you’re in sales, create a tile to launch your presentation with just the tap of a finger, or bring up your sales order form. If you’re a health professional, create a tile to display a patient’s medical records. Got a favorite website? Create a tile for YouTube, Amazon, Gmail and arrange the tiles however you want.

Finished with SimpleTap? Just one tap anywhere on the screen closes the application. Right now SimpleTap is a fun and simple way to access functions on your ThinkPad and enable quick and easy access to often used software, applications and websites. With the launch of Windows 7 and the increase in ‘touch’ awareness that is bound to follow this is a smart move by Lenovo.

The ThinkPad X200 Table and ThinkPad T400s with Enhanced MultiTouch panel technology and SimpleTap ease of use give us an exciting glimpse of things to come
