Though slightly slower than the ThinkPad X200, the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s makes up for it with its weight, or lack of it, – it’s the lightest ThinkPad available – and with a longer battery life.

It also provides incredible connectivity and sufficient processing power to handle the average business and office software. With a starting price of about $999, this laptop makes a great addition to any traveling businessperson’s mobile office.
The base ThinkPad X200s is powered by an Intel® Celeron® M processor 723 running at 1.2GHz up to the Intel Core 2 Duo processor SU9400 (1.4GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB) in the Elite ThinkPad X200s with integrated graphics.
While slightly slower than the X200 processor, it can still handle the multi-tasking demanded by today’s business travellers. It’s also a great option as a back-up system for managers and employees looking to work from home or on the go.
Controls and display on the ThinkPad X200s are strikingly easy to manipulate and interact with onsidering the X200s’ small size. The 12.1-inch screen improves upon its predecessor – the ThinkPad X61s – with a 1440 x 900 WXGA+ widescreen display in the Enhanced and Elite models, as opposed to the previous 4:3 aspect-ratio display, which allows for a greater ease of viewing and also creates more space for the newly upgraded full-size keyboard.
Cursor movement is controlled by the TrackPoint in the center of the keyboard; there is no touch-pad on the X200s.
When you want to stay in touch you have a few options with the ThinkPad X200s. The unit comes equipped with an Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300 for connecting in Wi-Fi-rich public areas. There’s also a 1GB Ethernet Card for working from a home office or wired hotel room. There’s even a Bluetooth chip Wireless USB. Should you want to upgrade, you can opt for WiMAX or a 56 Kbps dial-up modem. The choice is yours.
Battery power is superb in the X200s. And that really is it’s raison d’être. The 6 cell battery will last for about 6 1/2 hours of average use, but with the 9 cell battery, you’ll get close to 14 hours! The only real challenge with the 9 Cell option is that it brings the weight up to 3.3lbs.
Inputs available on the ThinkPad X200s include: three USB ports; Ethernet port; ExpressCard slot; SD Card slot or an optional five-in-one card reader; microphone jack; and headphone jack.
Optional upgrades include a built-in webcam, and of course, the X200 UltraBase docking station, which is required if you need an optical drive, since the X200s doesn’t have one built in. In our opinion though, the UltraBase is an absolute ‘must have’. If you have never experienced the convenience of just slotting an X Series notebook into the UltraBase when you get home, then you just have to buy one, and get DVD recordable if you can afford it for back up.

The ThinkPad X200s magnesium frame is skinned in a carbon-fibre infused plastic that is lightweight – its starting weight is 2.4lbs. – and extremely durable – a feature that is especially important on frequent trips through airports and in frequent transport.

Our Conclusion? The ThinkPad X200s is great for someone looking for Netbook portability without the lower performance that NetBook’s provide, providing you can stand the price tag of course.
It actually weighs less than our Lenovo IdeaPad s10! The ThinkPad X200s is a gem of an ultra portable notebook and is at the pinnacle of build quality and engineering excellence. If you want the very best ultraportable, then buy the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s
