Lenovo released the ThinkPad X300 back in February to industry wide acclaim and roars of approval from ultraportable aficionados.
This week they trump their own success by updating the award winning design and introducing the ThinkPad X301.
The X301 takes advantage of new the Intel Core 2 Duo ULV chip and faster DDR3 memory to deliver 20% more performance.
The ThinkPad X301 will be available with Intel’s 1.2GHz U9300 and 1.4GHz U9400 CPUs, both having 6MB L2 cache and 1066MHz FSB
Whilst the ThinkPad X300 is a superb ultraportable, the one thing holding it back in our mind was the 64 GB SSD. Lenovo has rectified that with the X301 by giving us the choice of either a 64 GB drive, or the new 128 GB SSD from Samsung. Now we are talking and the X301 starts to look like a really usable notenook for everyday, not just travel.
Whilst the design remains exactly the same this new incarnation of the brilliant ThinkPad X300 series will certainly keep the X301 at the top of the list as the most desirable and practical ultraportable that money can buy.
As with its predecessor, build quality is just outstanding. The ThinkPad X300 was fast, but with the combination of the new ULV Processor and DDR3 the X301 flies.
Sorry Steve, but you’ve been left in the dust again!
Lenovo have added DisplayPort to the X301 together with the existing VGA connection which makes viewing high definition content easy and is with the ultra-thin Blu-Ray DVD burner.
With support for both DisplayPort and VGA, users can watch high definition content on multiple displays. Well, at least they can watch it on two!
UWB and 3G cellular broadband (with GPS) options are available, and a WiMAX version will be available later on in the year. Lenovo have told us that models using AT&T mobile broadband have improved uplink performance by up to 250-percent over previous versions.
As with the X300 the new ThinkPad X301 continues Lenovo’s drive to produce the ultimate in ‘Green’ notebooks …….
“The ThinkPad X301 notebook also continues Lenovo’s focus on environmentally-responsible design. Its 13.3-inch LED backlit display, solid state drive storage and other energy-efficient technologies help make it rated Gold by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool. This designation adds to Lenovo’s portfolio of Gold-rated ThinkPad notebook and ThinkCentre desktop PCs.”
The Lenovo ThinkPad X301 will be available on August 26th, priced from $2,599 and we will be the first to let you know when it becomes available. If you are in the market for an ultraportable, and you can afford it, the Lenovo ThinkPad X301 is the only way to go
