Isn’t it great when your favorite Ultraportable laptop, the ThinkPad X61 is voted the best of the best ?
PC World Contributing Editor James Martin says Lenovo’s ThinkPad X61 earned the overall best PCW rating (84) of any Lenovo or Apple laptop currently on any PC World Top 10 laptop chart.
Considering that Lenovo and Apple are currently ranked as the best manufacturers in terms of reliability, the best service and support, that is some accolade.
The ThinkPad X61 is voted best buy on PC World’s Top 10 Ultraportables and only one laptop in all of the Top 10 charts earned a higher rating and that was in the Power Laptop category!
We have long contended that the ThinkPad X61 is the ideal ultraportable with its superb feature set and balance of weight, usability and power. Weighing only 3.6 pounds, and with its extended-life, four-cell battery giving an impressive 6 hours, 14 minutes, it’s great to take on the road. James Martin comments that with a PCW WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 75, it’s the best performing of their currently list of ultraportables. This was in comparison to Apple’s MacBook Air which earned a desultory score of 57.
The only downside that the ThinkPad X61 doesn’t have an internal optical drive, and the keyboard doesn’t use the signature ThinkPad UltraNav, opting instead for the famous ThinkPad TrackPoint. Once you have used an X61 together with the ThinkPad X6 UltraBase you won’t look back. Right now is the UltraBase option is available for $150. So unless you want to watch movies on the move you can safely leave the UltraBase at home and travel light.
Overall PC World sys that they found the X61 to be an excellent choice from a company with solid reliability and service scores. The ThinkPad X61 voted number one by the world’s number one authority, PC World Magazine.
