We have had a lot of readers asking what we know about the new ThinkPad x220 and ThinkPad x220 Tablet release date and specifications. What we can say is that it is close. We have been told that but we are under NDA. What we can tell you is that the new ThinkPad X220 will be nearly 20% lighter, closer to 3lbs, with upto the 2nd Generation Sandy Bridge core i7 processor, hopefully we will get the Core i7 2657M Sandy Bridge mobile processor the ULV Core i7 2657M which with the Intel HD 3000 graphics is going to pack some real punch.
The Core i7 2657M is not due until next month so, we will have to wait and see.

Are you saying that cheaper Sandy Bridge have HD 2000?
What about T420S?
Sorry Michael, ThinkPad T420s will be released at the same time as the other models in the T Series range.
Hi Jheronimus All Sandy Bridge Chips will incorporate Intel HD 3000 graphics.
It is important to understand the difference between Intel HD Graphics 3000 and HD Graphics 2000. Sandy Bridge integrates Intel HD Graphics 3000 across the board and combines 12eu’s (execution units) in comparison to HD Graphics 2000 having only 6eu’s. This doubling of graphics processing capability means that HD Graphics 3000 is twice as fast when it is processing gaming and business graphic applications.
When you put that together with the fact that Intel has literally stitched a quad-core Central Processing Unit, graphics, cache, a memory controller and PCI-Express connectivity all onto one piece of silicon you get huge performance increases.
Unless you are going for real high end gaming, you’re probably not going to need a discrete graphics card.
Why no usb 3.0? Dell will be getting them.
If they are thought to be released on the 21st, but not available to the public for a “couple of weeks”, do you have a rough estimate of when they might be available to everyone?
that’s great, waiting for T420, W520 & X220… I love ThinkPads
[...] has opted not to go for the ULV Core i7 2657M processors that we forecast in the 2011 ThinkPad Release Date article, instead going for the same range of 2nd gen iCore Processers found in the 2011 T Series. [...]

They have indeed! Only the models with Integrated Graphics have been introduced today, more next week!
Hi Ionel, we believe that the U260 will be getting Sandy Bridge, were just not sure of the iteration yet, which we are endeavoring to clarify with Lenovo.
Keep you eyes on our IdeaPad site for all the up to date news, Cheers, Ian
