Lenovo says the ThinkPad Edge E420 is still be a budget-friendly machine, but its ability to handle more complex tasks will be much improved, thanks in large part to the integration of Intel’s “Sandy Bridge” second-generation iCore processors.

ThinkPad Edge E420 – Surprising Performance

If you’re looking for a quality business laptop that you can bring with you on business or on vacations where you need to stay in touch, then the ThinkPad Edge E420 is a great alternative to the more expensive and traditional classic ThinkPad T Series. That’s because the new iCore processors provide the ThinkPad Edge E420 with everything you need to work, from memory to power to battery life.

The ThinkPad Edge E420 comes equipped with the range of second generation Intel’s Core processors up to the Core™ i7, and will be configurable with up to 8GB of RAM and a 750 GB Hard Drive. Whichever configuration you choose, though, performance will be the last thing you have to worry about.

Lenovo offer  Enhanced User Experience 2.0 with Rapid Drive Technology as an option. Enhanced User Experience wowed ThinkPad customers the first time around with its seamless integration of Windows 7 and Lenovo’s hardware. And now there’s more. The patent-pending Rapid Drive technology, should you choose it, gives you a mini solid-state drive and a regular disc-style drive that work as a single unit, meaning that you can maximize your workflow efficiency without sacrificing on your data storage.

Capping a wonderful machine is the 14.1-inch high-definition display, which uses the fantastic new “Sandy Bridge” 12EU graphics processing unit with Intel’s integrated graphics card to provide you with graphics processing unheard of just a year ago. Now you can enjoy high-definition video and animation without the usual lag time. You can also enjoy HDMI and VGA ports for connecting to external displays and a Integrated HD  webcam for face-to-face video calling.

And if you are on a Web Conference or using VIOP then the  Keyboard Noise Suppression technology and Dialogue Enhancement will make sure that no extraneous noise gets in the way!

ThinkPad Edge Keyboard – Smooth Controls and Interaction

The layout of the ThinkPad Edge E420 is very roomy. The superb island-style keyboard – with full numeric keypad – has the trademark spill-guard to protect your machine from liquid damage and there is, of course, the center-keyboard TrackPoint for which Lenovo is famous. There’s also a very responsive multi-touch TouchPad for easier navigation and scrolling.

A final nice touch, which is entirely optional on the ThinkPad Edge E420, is an integrated fingerprint reader, which will come in really handy when you’re on the road and carrying sensitive information. We wouldn’t do without a finger print reader on any of our ThinkPad’s and its such a convenient way to login at start up

ThinkPad Edge gives more

The ThinkPad Edge E420 comes with many connectivity options, not least of which is the integrated wireless and Ethernet cards, which will ensure you stay in touch with the world, wired or not.

In terms of ports, the Lenovo ThinkPad E420 has a few nice touches. For wireless devices you have a Bluetooth port and for wired devices you’ll find 3 USB ports. There is also a media card reader.

On top of all the great things above, the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420 also boasts some seriously cool engineering. Still equipped with an extremely durable frame, the ThinkPad Edge E420 has a spiffy new matte black case surrounded by brushed-aluminum trim.

ThinkPad Edge E420 Review –  Conclusion

Perfect for a businessperson on-the-go, the ThinkPad Edge E420 has much more power and more efficient performance than the previous ThinkPad Edge-series machines.

The ThinkPad Edge E420 is thinner and lighter being 1.1” at its thinnest point and only 4.62 lbs for a full size machine. It  has all the attributes of a classic ThinkPad with a sleek modern look, superb performance and with Rapid Drive technology a boot time close to 10 seconds.  The ThinkPad Edge E420 is a serious contender and well worth your money.
