July 20, 2010

New AMD-powered ThinkPad Edge 15. For some time now Lenovo has offered AMD processors with some of its machines, but now you can get the acclaimed ThinkPad Edge 15 outfitted with an AMD Phenom three-core processor. This will mean a lot to those looking for extreme multi-tasking, as AMD processors have been shown to shine in that area specifically.

The company’s Phenom IIX3 P280 clocks out at 1.8GHz and gets paired with an Intel Mobility Radeon HD3400 graphics card. That’s an equivalently priced package that surely outperforms the Intel HD graphics card. Users who don’t need high-end graphics, but still want something above “standard,” should certainly check out this model.

In terms of price, the Intel-equipped version of the Edge 15 is just $20 cheaper than the AMD version – $749 versus $729 – but again, for multi-taskers, the AMD processor is a step above.
