ThinkPad W500 and W700 – why the secrecy Lenovo?
With Lenovo’s recent release of their new line of notebooks, little information was disclosed about the ThinkPad W500, and absolutely nothing was said about the existence of the ThinkPad W700 17” widescreen model workstation.
A lot of pundits have said that the W700 doesn’t exist, but we’ll bet the farm that it does. There is just to much evidence around to suggest that it’s not ‘real’. What we cannot understand, is that with such a potentially superb flagship notebook like the W700, why is Lenovo acting as if it doesn’t exist?
The W700 has been seen on websites in China and has actually had a price fixed in Hong Kong.
W700 T9600 (2.8GHz 6MB )/4GB DDR3/SATA 320GB 5400rpm x 2/NVIDIA FX 2700M/17″ WUXGA 1920 x 1200/8.3lbs (3.77kg) HK$ 20436
I could kick myself because we actually saw a picture of the ThinkPad W700, and didn’t right click ‘Save As’! And we are not talking about the picture of the keyboard showing the digitizer pad alongside the TouchPad that is currently doing the rounds.
No, we are talking about a full blown professional image of the type that Lenovo releases showing the ThinkPad W700 in all its glory, with the name W700, clearly show on the bottom edge of the screen.
We have combed the Press release Packs that Lenovo send us, and absolutely nothing. All details seem to have been purged from the web, so why the secrecy Lenovo?
ThinkPad W500 – what do we know?
Well not a great deal right now, but details are emerging and we shall stay on top of this story over the coming days and weeks. The ThinkPad W500 is being dubbed a mobile workstation and the most powerful ThinkPad to date, with superior Open GL graphics and large amounts of memory and drive capacity. The W500 has been designed for professional users running advanced graphics and computer-intensive applications and gets full ISV certification.
We should have more, plus a detailed ThinkPad W500 picture gallery, over the next couple of days. Watch this space ThinkPad fans and so that you get all the breaking news, don’t forget to subscribe to the feed.
